With its slight Mexican flavor, 'Tequila Sunrise' in particular epitomizes that southwest U.S. Driving around the Arizona desert listening to them was a perfect fit! The perfect soundtrack for that trip. One time I took a trip out to Tucson, AZ and I made it a point to bring along my Eagles music. To me The Eagles are masters at conjuring up imagery of the southwestern U.S.

Rich from Oakland, CaI agree that it is about a guy drowning his guilt over coming on to his friend’s girl, even though she was cheating with other guys(gals?) too.

The line that gave it away was: 'He was just a hired hand, working on the dreams he planned to try.' Both Frey and Henley were playing in Linda Ronstadt's backing band when they formed Eagles, so they were in fact both hired hands, working on fulfilling their shared dream of forming a successful band.
